What is happening?!
On December 4th, Venus ingressed into Scorpio and the world’s collective panties dropped. Okay, not really, but it certainly would seem that way given the cliched approach that lots of modern astrology takes to both Venus and the world’s most misunderstood arachnid.*
What many of us will actually encounter over the next couple of weeks, and indeed for much of December, is less panty drop and more of an intense deepening of new and current relationships. We’ll likely feel a strong desire to examine interpersonal connections, particularly with the people who fulfill linchpin roles in our lives regarding support and pleasure. Do they feel the same about us? Are they happy with the way we’ve been existing together, or is there a change that needs to be made? This month feels like a global reenactment of a love story at the moment when both characters arrive at the relationship precipice and ask each other, “Where are we going from here? If we have a future, what does it look like?”
Even in stable, boring relationships, we might discover something new about the other person that sheds light on years of ambiguity. What is that intangible thing, that frisson that happens when you hold someone’s hand and realize that you never want to let it go? Conversely, if we’ve been holding the same hand for decades, how is it that we still find new crevasses and contours that intrigue and excite us, instead of growing bored and releasing it? These are the questions, among others, to which Venus will seek answers.
*That title might actually belong to the adorable jumping spider. They’re teeny! They smile! They just want to be loved and jump around, stop squishing them!!
Why would this affect me?
The goddess planet of love, beauty, and pleasure will be in Scorpio throughout most of December, during which she also trines Saturn, opposes Jupiter, and forms a sextile with Mercury. Whew - in other words, Venus is getting around in a very sex-positive kind of way, and she’s doing it in a sign that takes nothing lightly or for granted.
When popular culture conjures Scorpio, it is often amidst a landscape populated by squeaky PVC outfits awash in bodily fluids, whispered commands, and the locked back rooms of wealthy sociopath’s mansions so that everyone and their mother knows Scorpio = Sexy Sex.
Though that is certainly a piece of the 8th house, Scorpio’s domicile, one element is not going to define an entire house, chart, planet, or sign. We tend to conflate Scorpio with sex as a shallow interpretation instead of diving deeper into why this sign gives Puritans and prudes sweaty palms.
In reality, sex is just an action like any other, and it is not the action that jazzes Scorpio up so much as the intention. It is an integral part of the people born under this sign, not for its mechanics, but for its implications of depth, intimacy, and ultimate truth. Scorpions are most concerned with truth - with uncovering the deeper meaning behind life, love, and the way this universe works. The mechanics of sex and the showy trappings that often accompany such in modern life are completely inconsequential to the meaning behind the act, and thus inconsequential to Scorpio themselves. What is of consequence is the truth that intimacy can lay bare - after all, there is no more perfect setting for seeing people, really seeing them, without their masks or makeup or trappings. It is that universal truth and connection that Scorpio craves, not the whip and collar that may or may not accompany it.
Venus, for her part, has already had an active and slightly exhausting year. She was retrograde for much of the summer, causing many of us to re-examine past relationships and endeavors in occasionally painful ways, and she did it while moving through Leo, which means we might have done so in painfully public ways. (I know some of you out there went and cut bangs despite my best efforts.) After her showy sojourn through the sign of the lion, Venus entered her chariot of Libra and began a journey of reconciliation in search of justice, placing emphasis on femme issues, equal rights, and bodily autonomy. Interestingly, Venus was in Libra during key U.S. elections in Ohio and Virginia. Those electoral outcomes aligned very closely with the Libran true north of justice, affirming wins for femmes, reproductive rights and victim compensation.
Now, in December, this important planet that governs women, art, pleasure, and beauty is spending a month in a place that demands true intimacy and commitment.
This is the time for long game strategy, both personally and communally, as we dive deep into the motivation and instincts of other people. For those of us fence-sitting when it comes to next steps and commitments, be prepared to face questions and possibly ultimatums, because Scorpio lives at extremes and is a bitch who loves to give ultimatums. If your partner has been hinting at moving in, if marriage, children, or other major upgrades have been discussed only loosely or not at all, then this may be the month to take the plunge. Similarly, for those who have been waffling on a creative project or new opportunity, December could prove to be the put-up-or-shut-up month for true commitment. People are going to be seeking deep connection from us, and we from them; it’s time to be honest about what we really want and what we are willing to give in return.
When do I have to deal with this?
This Venusian neediness is happening all month, but we’ll keep it to the first week or so for now. Let’s check in with all of these nutty astrological personalities to clarify what is going on:
Venus = saucy minx planet in charge of art, love, femmes, beauty and abundance
Scorpio = intense investigator of truth and connection who also happens to be kind of sexy
Saturn = problematic zaddy who loves strict boundaries and discipline
Lilith = freaky little ‘black moon’ point that holds our most taboo desires, also Adam’s first wife who told him to fuck off
Jupiter = magnanimous, egotistical father of the gods who was born lucky and lives lucky
Mercury = speedy, slutty imp in charge of communication and chicanery
The dates of perfection (by which I mean the moments that these aspects are at the perfect degree) are as follows:
12.4 - Venus meets up with Scorpio and purrs, “Oh. Oh heeyyy.” Cue the heated staring contests and panty drops.
12.5 - Venus trines Saturn and shows him that discipline can be fun with the right pair of handcuffs, making this an excellent week for traditional social events and important business meetings.
12.7 thru 12.10 - Venus forms a sextile with Lillith, during which Lilith invites her to indulge in whatever dirty fantasy crosses her mind. Have fun and stay safe.
12.9 - Venus forms an opposition with Jupiter, challenging him to give her a good time and really go for it with the hedonism, probably because she’s been egged on by Lilith.
12.11 - Venus forms a sextile with Mercury and they link arms to charm every single person in the known universe. Schedule a job interview, ask for a raise, sweet talk a landlord, whatever…we are all about to be charismatic as hell.
Cool, what does the Tarot say about all this?
Thursday’s pull of Justice reversed and the 4 of Coins reversed indicates someone getting away with shadiness, particularly when it comes to security and finances. (Honestly, doesn’t that just sum up the global ruling class on any given day?) We’ve collectively become very savvy about this, however, and just because justice is denied today does not guarantee that the same holds true for tomorrow. On Friday we may have to face an ending of sorts by letting go of a long shot fantasy, but the Unbound card shows us how freeing certainty can be, even if we lose. Let it (or them) go and move on. Saturday might just bring the boost that helps us get over the finality of Friday as we let our inner High Priestess lead us to more reciprocal and fulfilling situations. Listen to your gut on Saturday and follow the threads of any legitimate offers. Just be careful; The Fool reversed is cautioning the more reckless among us to avoid immature pitfalls in both relationships and finance - remember that Venus wants us to make real connections right now, and not in the poorly advised, drunken, one-night stand sort of way.
Lagniappe
As we prepare to dive deep into very important aspects of our lives like our relationships, our creative passions, and our journey to our best selves, it doesn’t hurt to have a little metaphysical help in the form of wearable crystals. These are the stones I plan to pair for the rest of the month - not only do they amplify and harmonize each other’s energy, but they are aesthetically complementary and tie any outfit involving leopard print together. It is a scientific fact that Venus loves leopard print.
Amber
This is a cool, sensual choice for making the most of this month for a couple of reasons:
It’s petrified pine tree resin, very seasonal
It opens the sacral chakra, a.k.a. the sexy-time chakra
Amber has a mind-blowingly long lineage of use in medicine and jewelry and increases physical comfort and sensuality
Black Tourmaline
Scorpios love black tourmaline, a protective, cleansing crystal that looks better raw than polished and is known to:
Resonate with Mercury and Saturn energy specifically
Work well paired with other crystals
Is good at protecting us from our worst intentions, i.e rashly getting into bed with the wrong person
Clear Quartz
Amplify anything with quartz and see your intentions manifest like Incredible Hulk. This diamond stand-in has strong Venus association and super sizes any stone it is paired with, plus it opens our very important crown chakra, which helps us make sensible decisions in the heat of passion.
Thank you so much for reading, I always appreciate the feedback:)
Such a good read! Thank you!! ♥️
