WHAT?
We now welcome the tangible presence of fall in the Northern Hemisphere as nights lengthen and days shorten following Halloween, Samhain, Dia de los Muertos, All Souls Day, and a slew of other death/rebirth festivals that span the globe. Our post-eclipse exhale blows crispy leaves to the ground with one last shush, bringing us face to face with months of barren bark and chilled temperatures. Almost on cue, many planets are rearranging themselves to usher important, possibly visceral changes to our internal and external landscapes, and the next few days will feel full of ideas and insights that will fuel us for what is looking like a brash, transformative November.
Confidence is in the air on Friday thanks to the teamwork of two big, bold bodies, Jupiter and our sun, as they oppose each other in Taurus and Scorpio, respectively. Whatever lessons we learned during the partial eclipse might begin to prove their worth this weekend, particularly if the full moon of October 28th brought difficult, transformative revelations to light. So, take heart! If last week sucked, the vibe of this weekend is one that gently delivers the justification of that suckage. We also find relief and a bit of beautiful escapism in relationships and the arms of those who love us as Venus in Virgo and Neptune in Pisces lock eyeballs and engage in a hedonistic staring contest, bringing an escapist, almost perverse joy to the more sensual areas of our lives.
It might feel particularly good to stay in bed with someone on Saturday, almost as an act of defiance, considering the tension and aggravation that will be floating around in a more general, public capacity. Chatterbox Mercury will be opposing Uranus, influencing information channels and conversations toward combativeness and defiance. New ideas will create discomfort and hint at broader intellectual and philosophical disagreements, which are getting harder and harder to opt out of. Resist the pull to engage in discussion with strangers or acquaintances that have a high possibility of becoming heated - people are having a lot of feelings about societal direction right now, and conversations regarding politics and culture will get spicy very quickly. The best course of action is to stay engaged in our home lives and close relationships as we eschew broader social and political declarations...for now. As November unfurls, it will feel impossible to stay on the sidelines, and shit-disturber Uranus will have a lot to say in the coming weeks about the collective habits we need, as a society, to break.
WHY?
To understand the vibes and eliminate some potential friction of this weekend moving into next week, it's helpful to analyze the aspect currently dominating our key celestial bodies. That aspect? Planetary opposition, my dudes.
Oppositions get a bad rap in popular astrology, though they are not perceived so rudely as that infamous and dread aspect, the square. When planets square off, they form a weapons-grade ninety degree angle, and the physical and emotional effects can feel like being elbowed in the mouth during some brutal group sport. Squares can fucking hurt, despite being informative and necessary, and if warmonger Mars is involved, that hurt can manifest very literally in the form of physical violence.
Oppositions have a much different vibe than squares. They occur when planets face each other across a polarity, sort of how the lunar nodes always sit on an axis of opposites like Taurus vs. Scorpio. Oppositions can emphasize tension, but tension is not always bad. This aspect is less like a physical altercation and more like a powerful staring contest with an unknown, magnetic entity during an important meal - it might end in total hatred, reluctant comraderie, or in a naked, carnal explosion, depending on which planets are involved. A simplified breakdown of the edgy, electric dinner party happening in the sky this weekend looks like this:
The Sun = Apollo, Ra, bringer of light, knowledge, truth, optimism
Jupiter = Zeus, Amun, fortune, luck, expansiveness and growth
Sun/Jupiter Opposition = "I'm awesome, you're awesome, we should take our awesomeness to the next level and go after anything we want, other people be damned. Hey, nice eye!"
Venus = Aphrodite, Isis, protector of beauty, art, femmes, opulence, and culture
Neptune = Poseidon, Sobek, ruler of the subconscious, water, dreams, untapped potential and the womb of creation
Venus/Neptune Opposition = "I have every drug imaginable back at my house and you look hot as hell, baby, so let's get out of here."
Mercury = Hermes, Thoth, messenger between worlds and opposites, fussy goddamn busy body and occasional chaos agent, blabbermouth
Uranus = Caelus, Anu, father figures, expansion and updates, weird, unpopular ideas and innovation
Mercury/Uranus Opposition = "Hi, my name is Elon Musk...* "
*I'm kidding, but only a little. This aspect can emphasize belligerent egos and a noisy unwillingness to compromise. It often results in necessary updates, but at the cost of being deeply angry and annoyed by opposing world views.
WHEN?
Friday, November 3rd could present as a day of sexy disassociation as the opposition perfects between Venus and Neptune, but we will probably be saved from leaning too far into vice and escapism due to Venus still transiting that fussy bitch Virgo. So we'll want to get naked and let our hair down, but not too far down, because what would people say?! The effects of our sun opposing Jupiter will also be felt on the 3rd, though that opposition perfects the previous evening of Thursday, November 2nd on the West coast. With Jupiter in Taurus, this aspect bodes well for resources and finances, but the sun in Scorpio can fall easily into arrogance, so we should tone it down before writing any cheques with our mouths that our asses can't cash. Saturday, November 4th brings the perfection of Mercury opposite Uranus, so we can expect contentious debates and a bit of defiance in the face of accepted tradition to dominate public thought and speech, probably well into next week.
TAROT
The 8 of Wands reversed plagues us on both Wednesday and Thursday, and for whatever reason we lack the momentum we so desperately crave. Either we need more resources to do the thing, are ambivalent about doing the thing, are experiencing opposition to the thing, or it is simply not the right time for the thing, whatever it is, to occur.
The 6 of Spheres showing up for Friday puts us in the running for financial altruism and emphasizes a feeling of community and material generosity. The luck of Jupiter may be on our side when it comes to loans, jobs, or housing, but remember - if we want to receive help, we must remember to ask for it.
On Saturday, the 7 of Coins reminds us that perseverance and commitment will always be necessary for material success, and no amount of free money can replace due diligence. Don't blow the potential of unexpected good will - make a sensible plan to utilize it wisely.
Because we can't seem to have nice things, the 5 of Knives shows up on Sunday to remind us that assholes still run the world, and many of them have problematic opinions. Expect to fight about it, or, conversely, to hide in a closet until the blowhards of the world pause their shouting.
Finally, Monday carries us into next week with The Fool reversed and a warning to protect ourselves from impulsivity and recklessness. Remain suspicious of people who claim to have everything figured out - if it isn't already obvious, the Dunning-Kruger effect is on a tear through the highest orders of our society.
