WHAT?
The south lunar node is nearing full, 5-star spice as we edge toward its perfection on October 14th, and yes, sensitive tongues will probably be burned.
Individuals, places, and situations that were once simply mild annoyances could take on more severe implications this week, causing us to examine their presence in our lives with renewed scrutiny. For many people, this has been a glacial (yet steady) process that began in March with Aries season, when we glimpsed a sliver of the tension that infuses the Aries/Libra axis. Expect social situations and groups to be shaken up as individuals take stock of their needs; some people will inevitably bow out of relationships that are not serving them. It's harsh, for sure, but if the alternative is being surrounded by influences in our lives who only persist reluctantly, then embodying Marie Kondo and tossing everyone and everything that does not spark joy seems sensible and necessary.
This first eclipse may also serve as a starting shot to some people, in that it will not necessarily ignite massive purging...yet. It will simply alert us to possible shadowy or unsavory aspects of some of our relationships. Thanks to Mars entering Scorpio, now through late November is the time to observe, record, and play a very, very, long game with the elements in our lives that need changing. This solar eclipse may provide the first hint as to who or what that will be, so watch closely.
Mars moves into Scorpio at 9:05 this evening, whereupon we shall all commence epic grudge-holding
WHY?
Eclipses bring chaos and culmination to places of tension along the axis, and as well as areas of our life affected by the ruling planet of the eclipse transit; which, in this instance, are Venus and Libra, respectively.
Venus rules things like art, culture, money, and fashion, indicating that those are the pain points we can expect this eclipse to press upon. (Money? A pain point?! In America?!! Surely not.) Libra themselves are pathologically sociable and need company to survive, so many of us are going to seek a purification of sorts when it comes to the company we keep, in addition to the ways all things Venusian show up in our lives. It's important to remember that we are dealing with eclipse seasons on this axis until 2025, so avoid the temptation to get aggressive, quit school, kill social accounts, erase everyone's number, and move to the Yukon in one evening. We're not there, yet, and everyone deserves a little grace period.
Another transit starting this week should, fortunately, temper our impulse to purge, and that is Mars entering Scorpio.
Mars loves being in Scorpio, and was the original ruler for the predatory arachnids before distant, chilly Pluto was discovered in 1930. In Scorpio, the red planet is a far cry from the confused, reluctant fall of Libra, who mostly hates and avoids conflict. Scorpios have zero problem with conflict, but prefer it to play out on only their terms, which makes them excellent at lengthy, chess-style maneuvering when faced with elements of aggression. Scorpio hangs back and gathers damning evidence over years, and does not simply rush at people with an axe. (For that, we look to the other loyal subject of Mars, violent dude-bro Aries.) Thus it should be easier to hold back and observe whatever this eclipse reveals without acting rashly, as our conflict planet moves into the space of his quieter, more observant, but no less deadly subject.
WHEN?
Mars enters Scorpio at 9:05pm on the West Coast, and our Ring of Fire commences on 10.14.23 at 9:13am.
TAROT
The King of Pentacles shows up twice this week, indicating that a calm and mature presence, one offering sage advice regarding practical matters like employment and health, will be at the forefront of public discussion - perhaps as an influence we long to embrace.
The 8 of Swords shows up on Thursday with warnings of entrapment, broadcasting how so many of us feel crushed under the stasis of our jobs, our government, and all of our imperfect institutions. On Friday we encounter The Tower, indicative of crises and catastrophe - not shocking given the proximity to a solar eclipse. There is continued fallout on Saturday courtesy of the 9 of Swords, and a collective rage/despair feedback loop related to events on Friday may ensnare many people - perhaps even those not directly affected. Maybe cool it on scrolling the news this weekend? Sunday offers respite and an interesting detente; the joy and personal contentedness of The Sun is realized post-eclipse and accompanied by the second showing of The King of Pentacles...seriously, who is this guy and what does he want?! Other than for us to do better with our bank accounts?
Finally, we roll into next week needing more solitude than comradery, perhaps because of insights gained regarding other people's behaviour during the eclipse. Whatever the case, make sure self-care is at the top of the task list after such an exhausting week.
