WHAT?
The last, full supermoon of 2023 rises in the sky on Friday, September 29th, and it is going to be a doozy.
The word 'reverberation' nicely encapsulates our impending experience this week, in that almost every part of the sky will contribute to what could be described as massive, collective tension. This is due to the sun, moon, lunar nodes, and big, red, shit-disturber Mars all being pulled taught as bowstrings between the Aries/Libra axis, the astrological seesaw that asks us to balance the needs of the many against the needs of the few, or the one, a.k.a. Spock-core.
Expect to feel pulled in different directions mentally, if not physically. Communication lines that have been muted might re-open, but social weirdness will be tough to avoid. Many people started Libra season with increased solitude, by circumstance if not by choice, and now have the space to question social connections. The world grows more fraught and time seems to be of the existential essence, making it natural to feel protective of our effort, mental health, and - yeah, hours clocked. Those of us with Mars-heavy charts may feel emboldened to dish out unvarnished truth before brutally axing questionable individuals or elements from our lives; but it won't necessarily feel pleasant. Others might feel they've been treated unfairly or inartfully by once close compatriots, particularly if the reason for distance was never clearly verbalized. One factor is certain, which is that Mars involvement will always amount to friction.
WHY?
This full moon is in Aries, meaning the moon is "ruled" by Mars, the hot-headed toddler of personal planets. Mars also happens to be hanging out in cozy quarters with the Lunar South Node - both of whom are passing through Libra.
Now, Mars does not like being in Libra, because the god of war doesn't give a fuck if people like him or want to be his friend, and that is sometimes all Libra thinks about. So a transit through Libra makes Mars feel like his sword hand is bound and he's got a blindfold on, and on top of that he's being forced to be nice to people. On top of that he's being forced to sit next to another Libra, a vain sycophant in the eyes of Mars, while he watches the moon that he's technically in charge of cozy up to Chiron and the Lunar North Node. Is the tension obvious yet? If not, feel free to reference this handy guide:
1. Mars(violent toddler) + Lunar South Node (issues needing release) + The Sun (global vibes and our public selves)
2. Full Moon (emotional flood light) + Lunar North Node (desires and aspirations) + Chiron (personal shame and injuries)
Team #1 is transiting Libra, Team #2 is transiting Aries, and as you can see in the second picture, they are shooting daggers at each other across the universe. The celestial bodies of #1 are typically individualistic, but being in Libra makes it hard for them to fully express themselves. The celestial bodies of #2 are also focused on the internal self, but they will be more comfortable with this battle because they are transiting through Aries, who is about as self-focused as a zodiac sign can get. The result will be a boisterous, unavoidable examination of what we need to keep and what we must release if we want to survive.
For less linear thinkers, the following anecdote encapsulates the full moon we are about to experience.
When she was very little, like, 2 years old, we brought our daughter to a Thai restaurant in Chicago to meet with friends. She had eaten all kinds of food since she was weaned, so we figured she would eat some of our yellow curry...and she did, but not without incident. To our adult taste buds the dish had only mild kick, but my daughter started yelling, "SPICEEEYY" after the first bite and begging for water. I remember frantically scanning the menu for something else to feed her (if you have children, you know that a toddler in a restaurant will make you do everything frantically) before I watched her tearfully shove another curry chunk into her mouth. She followed it up with another wail, another big gulp of water, and then continued to shovel. It was a delicious curry, and she liked it, she just didn't have any other way to cope with the spice. After each mournful proclaimation of "SPICEEEY" she took a drink and kept eating until the curry was gone. The conflict on her little gnome face was palpable and familiar, the signal of an internal war that requires you to push through something painful because you know it's good for you. That is what September 29th through October 3rd will feel like.
There is another harsh celestial aspect looming over us this weekend, one with equal amounts of reverberation, and that is Venus in Leo squaring off to Uranus in Taurus. That Venus rules love and art isn't often in question, but many of us like to forget that Venus also rules money. (If it helps, think of Aphrodite as Kim Kardashian or some such celebrity for whom beauty and wealth are tightly intertwined.) Astrologically, Uranus is like the tech bro of ancient Greece; he disrupts things by blowing past social norms and obsessing over improvement, like a system update for system updates. When he squares Venus, it means that culture, art, and finance could see rude, remarkable upheaval ala the move-fast-and-break-things mentality of the domestic tech sector. Big gains are eventually followed by big losses, mostly because the universe hates entropy. This is a weekend to watch for dramatic, ominous financial situations - both personally and institutionally. Proceed with caution.
WHEN?
Friday, September 29th at 5:57am pacific is peak Aries supermoon, and Venus will square Uranus on the exact same day. This means the Aries moon is casting a harsh light on the Venus/Uranus square, so whatever sort of money boondoggle that's about to take place is going to be loud and inescapable, likely affecting us all. Due to the massive reverberation throughout our solar system of the Libra/Aries axis, a major snafu point could be the tension between individual wealth versus group or global wealth. So, you know - typical 2023 horseshit.
TAROT
We can see whispers of our individual selves at odds with group expectations or friend dynamics starting today and continuing into tomorrow, and the Ace of Bottles reversed indicates that new relationships or emotional endeavors have no chance for lift-off this week; don't even try.
On Friday, The Empress reversed and The Hermit upright signal public abandonment of shallow issues, as well as a collective refusal to blindly follow superficial directives. The Empress also associates heavily with Venus, and her reversal may indicate upheaval in the areas of culture and finance that leaves individuals on their own, much like The Hermit uses his own illumination to navigate trouble.
Saturday is gnarly, emotionally, which hints at a bit of lag time between Friday happenings and public fallout. We won't lose everything, but it might feel like we did, though on Sunday we will be able to separate the practical peril from our own overreactive emotions, especially if, per the 2 of Cups, we find a trusted confident to kvetch with. The King of Coins reversed and paired with obsidian points to needing protection from authority figures when it comes to our personal security. Given that money markets are closed on Sunday, Friday is the best day to, say, diversify the location of our funds and anything else of worth.
Monday looks like course correction or some collective attempt at disaster mitigation, since the upright King of Coins pairs with Strength to increase our stamina and abundance, but it's unclear how or from whom deliverance arrives, if it arrives at all. The course correction may only just be getting started.
